A leading manufacturer and installation specialist of aluminum gangways for the off-shore industry needed a solution to give crane operators perfect visibility of the end of the gangways which allow access to offshore wind farms.
Attempting to install such large, rugged equipment can be difficult, and these service vessels often endure extreme temperatures and aggressive winds making navigating blind spots problematic.
A complete wireless
camera solution was required which would help improve visibility for the crane operators on the service vessel, and due to the harsh environment and exposure to large volumes of water, ingress protection was essential.
Furthermore, the project was under very tight installation deadlines prior to the vessel leaving port, so a fast turnaround for the equipment and proof of concept was required.
Working together
Impulse Embedded take pride in building relationships with our customers, and used this partnership to work together and help devise the perfect solution for the requirement. For this project our in-house Field Application Engineers helped make recommendations for a network of specialised wireless devices from
Moxa,
Axis and
Winmate that could be used in the system to control the positioning of the gangway installation.
Impulse supplied and pre-configured an
Axis IP rated network
camera which was mounted on to the end of gangway with a pan tilt zoom feature controlled by the crane operator. The wireless network devices were also pre-configured in the Impulse Engineering facility and used to created a wireless network on the gangway. The network devices were mounted in waterproof cabinets with suitable power supplies. Two live
camera feeds were then made available via a pair of industrial
Winmate tablet PCs, facilitating full control and visibility of the
camera feed and movement at the end of the gangway.
