Battery powered digital signage installed in rail and airport applications

Our client required a suite of digital signage units for installation throughout UK rail and airport depots, and due to power restrictions battery power was essential.
To provide a solution independent of power outlets, our customers tasked us with providing a unit that had the performance to run their custom software, yet could effectively run on battery power alone. The main demand of a battery powered digital signage player is the trade-off between power consumption and performance.

Impulse offered two solutions - the eBOX565 running a mobile i5 CPU, and the BOXER-6639 running a desktop i5 CPU. To compare, the eBOX has a small footprint, with lower power consumption and lower performance, and the BOXER has a large footprint, with higher power consumption and higher performance.  Both Embedded PCs have a wide DC power input which is important for battery operation and wide operating temperatures making them suitable for the varying environmental conditions within the transport depots.
