Impulse presents the BOXER-6301VS, a rugged, embedded computer specifically designed for in-vehicle applications
Aaeon Technology introduces the latest entry in the BOXER series, the BOXER-6301VS embedded PC. Utilising the Intel Core i5-4402E processor, the system is certified with E-mark e13 / ISO-7637 for vehicle power standards, making it ideally suited for in-vehicle applications.

In addition to a multitude of I/O ports for a variety of in-vehicle applications, the PC adopts a reliable fanless design and provides wireless communication features for users wishing to establish a network connection at any location.

The BOXER-6301VS is a standalone high performance PC designed for extended operation and with high reliability. It can replace traditional methods and become the mainstream box PC for diversified markets.

Key features

Acknowledging some of the most common scenarios present inside a vehicle, the BOXER-6310VS is built with a number of features that can effectively overcome these problems. One such example is protecting the computer from constant power fluctuations.

Unlike a normal power supply, vehicular power supplies are often subjected to wide fluctuations during vehicle operation. For instance, a surge might occur during startup; voltages might drop drastically as the onboard devices are powered up; interference from noise and stray voltages may be present as devices are used. This rugged computer incorporates surge protection, power on/off delay, low voltage battery protection, and critically low voltage battery protection as measures to counter these unpredictable conditions and prevent electrical damage.

Another feature tailored for the vehicular environment is easing the installation and maintenance of the vehicle’s on-board devices through Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) technology, which helps reduce the amount of cabling required by using only a single wire for both power and data transmission. Compared to the traditional method of connecting the onboard devices, such as cameras and sensors, PoE makes the task of installing and maintaining the devices simpler while driving down costs in the process.
 
Other features aiding vehicle operators include swappable hard drives for downloading captured footage conveniently after a day’s operation and a CANbus interface so that many of the vehicle parameters, such as engine status, mileage and fuel conditions, can be monitored easily and in greater detail. The BOXER-6310VS’s connectivity options enables the captured video footage or data to be sent wirelessly through 3G/4G/WiFi networks during an incident allowing for real-time assessment of the situation from a command and control center.
