CE

CE is a mandatory standard for products on the market in the European Economic Area. By CE marking a product, the manufacturer ensures that the item meets the essential safety requirements set out in the applicable CE directive.

RoHS

This product fully adheres to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive 2002/95/EC, RoHS for short.  The directive covers the restriction of use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment and was adopted in February 2003 by the European Union.

Class 1 Division 2 Certified

The National Electrical Code (NEC) defines hazardous environments as areas “where fire or explosion hazards may exist due to flammable gases, vapours, liquids, dust or particles”. When such materials are found in the atmosphere of an area, a potential for explosion exists, which could be ignited if an electrical or other source of ignition is present. As defined by the classification authorities, certified devices are suitable for installation and operation within a Class 1, Division 2 environment. Class 1 environments are areas where there is a presence of flammable gases or vapours in the air, such as natural gas or petroleum vapour. Facilities including oil rigs, refineries, gas plants and automotive repair centres all fall within this category.

CSA Approved

CSA certification indicates that a product, process or service has been tested to a Canadian or U.S. standard and it meets the requirements of an applicable CSA standard or another recognised document used as a basis for certification.

FM Approved

FM approved certification is a standard set by FM Global. Industrial and commercial companies around the world rely on products and services that are FM approved and specification tested to protect their properties from loss. The FM APPROVED mark, which is backed by scientific research and testing, advises customers that the product conforms to the highest standards.

ATEX approved

ATEX is the name commonly given to the European Directive 94/9/EC, also known as ATEX 95 or ATEX Equipment Directive. The regulation applies to all equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres, whether electrical or mechanical, including protective systems. There are two categories of equipment 'I' for mining and 'II' for surface industries. The directive covers a large range of equipment, potentially including electrical equipment used on fixed offshore platforms, in petrochemical plants, mines, flour mills and other areas where a potentially explosive atmosphere may be present.

The SCMVAS (Signal Conditioning Modular Voltage Attenuator System) is an analog signal conditioning system designed to safely monitor and accurately measure voltage potentials up to 460VAC (1300V peak-to-peak). These high level voltages are typically found in industrial applications such as induction heaters or electric-motor drive controllers. The system reduces the input signal to a level suitable for interface to data acquisition systems, while at the same time providing various filter characteristics and 1500Vrms isolation.

For each channel of analog input, an attenuator module, SCMVAS-M, pre-conditions the signal which is then filtered, isolated, and converted to a high-level voltage output using an SCM5B30-07 or SCM5B40-07 module. The SCM5B30-07 module with a 4Hz bandwidth is recommended for common 50/60Hz signals low in harmonics where the user is interested in measuring only AC voltage. The attenuator and signal conditioning modules have excellent stability over time and do not require recalibration. Overall system accuracy is ±0.06%.

Input signal connections to the SCMVAS-M attenuator module are made using a pluggable terminal block for ease of system assembly and reconfiguration. For safety purposes, the terminal block has a cover over the screws and there are no other exposed high-voltage points on the SCMVAS-M series modules, SCM5B30-07 or SCM5B40-07 module, or the mounting backpanel.
