The AIMB-229 from Advantech is an industrial mini-ITX motherboard, sporting the latest AMD Ryzen Embedded V2000 series processors which deliver a 15% increase in instructions per cycle (IPC) over their predecessor. This boost in IPC brings up to 30% better single-threaded performance and up to 40% better graphical performance over the previous Ryzen Embedded V1000 series.  

Bringing 7nm AMD "Zen2" processing to industry 4.0

The V2000 series of processors are built using AMD's Zen2 architecture, with the 7nm process being half the size of the process used in the Ryzen Embedded V1000 processors found in the AIMB-228. As a result of this shrinking in process, AMD has been able to squeeze twice the amount of cores into the same size chip with no impact on the thermal properties — a consideration so important in embedded markets. For graphics, the Ryzen Embedded V2000 series has been upgraded from the Vega compute units to the newer generation of AMD Radeon compute units to offer substantially better graphical performance.

In addition to supporting the Ryzen Embedded V2000 processors, the AIMB-229 has a rich and broad range of I/O on the rear of the board, including two Gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB3.2 ports, two USB-C ports which support display port signals and two HDMI2.0 interfaces. On the board itself, there is support for six COM ports, 16-bit GPIO, an eDP port for pairing with an LCD screen, a USB2.0 header and a PS/2 port for keyboard or mouse. For expansion, there is a 5G-ready M.2 3042 M-key slot, one M.2 2230 E-key for conventional wireless expansion and one PCIe [x8] slot.

Furthermore, SUSI, WISE-DeviceOn and Edge AI Suite are useful features supported as standard, both providing a modular operating environment for system integrators, and allowing for remote management, control and monitoring of the board to create a more intelligent and interconnected embedded computing solution.

It is this rich selection of features combined with the new 7nm Ryzen Embedded V2000 processors that makes the AIMB-229 suitable for a wide range of edge processing applications in addition to the digital signage and thin client embedded applications
