The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), an organization aiming to transform business by accelerating the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has released an update to their ‘Industrial Internet Vocabulary Technical report’ which ‘specifies a common set of definitions for effective communication within the Industrial Internet eco-system’.
The report, first published in July 2015, has been updated this month in order to include new definitions for the growing popularity of edge computing, connectivity and OT/IT convergence, subjects that are prevalent within the Industrial Internet of Things eco-system and relevant to our current customer base.

A clear mission

The mission of the IIC is to ‘deliver a trustworthy IIoT in which the world’s systems and devices are securely connected and controlled to deliver transformational outcomes’. Several members of the consortium that have been actively involved in writing the report include prominent figureheads in the world of IoT including systems and software architects, business experts and security experts like Frederick Hirsch (Fujitsu), Anish Karmarkar (Oracle), Graham Bleakley (IBM), Paul Didier (Cisco), Sven Schrecker (Intel) and many more.

Rob Plant, Impulse Embedded Sales Director comments, “The report put together by the IIC is a significant step forward in helping to resolve some of the perplexity that surrounds the principles of IIoT, allowing project stakeholders to talk using the same language without misunderstanding key terminology”.
