Engineering Manager - Embedded Computing/Industrial Networking

We are seeking an experienced and customer-focused Engineering Manager to lead our technical engineering function within the industrial computing and networking sector. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining team management, technical authority, customer engagement, and project support.

About the Role

The successful candidate will lead a small team of engineers responsible for both pre-sales and post-sales technical support, acting as the primary escalation point for complex technical, design, and application-related challenges. They will work closely with customers, sales teams, technology partners, and internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality technical solutions and exceptional customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Technical

  • Lead, coach and develop the Technical Support team.
  • Take ownership of complex technical escalations and strategic customer critical issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement of technical support processes through SLA and process performance measurement.
  • Plan and deliver technical and product training for internal teams.
  • Support the Head of Technical and R&D to deliver effective NPI.
  • Act as a key technical point of contact for Impulse Embedded.

Customer & Project Support

  • Engage directly with customers to understand technical requirements and provide solution guidance.
  • Support the Head of Technical and R&D and Key Account Managers during customer consultations, technical workshops, and solution presentations.
  • Support and, on occasions, lead technical discussions during design-led projects, ensuring solutions meet customer, regulatory, and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate technical activities across customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership during customer escalations and critical support situations.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Champion engineering excellence, quality standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain and improve engineering processes in line with company quality management systems.
  • Monitor and report on technical support KPIs, quality metrics, and customer satisfaction measures.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective action processes for technical and quality-related issues.
  • Support audits, compliance activities, and quality improvement programmes.

Team Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering talent.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, collaboration, and customer focus.
  • Support training and professional development initiatives across the engineering function.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practice throughout the organisation.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Degree qualified in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • Significant industry experience within industrial computing, embedded systems, industrial networking, automation, or a closely related technology sector.
  • Previous experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
  • Strong customer-facing experience, including technical presentations, solution design, and project support.
  • Experience acting as a technical escalation point for complex engineering issues.
  • Proven electronics fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols, networking technologies, and embedded hardware platforms.
  • Experience working within ISO-based Quality Management Systems and continuous improvement environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or technology discipline.
  • Experience within industrial automation, transportation, energy, machine vision, AI at the edge, or critical infrastructure markets.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for industrial systems and operational technology environments.
  • Experience with reliability engineering, product validation, or environmental testing.
  • Familiarity with European and international regulatory standards applicable to industrial electronics and networking products.
