RS-232 is often used for straightforward point-to-point connections, while RS-422 and RS-485 are typically better suited to longer runs or more noise-prone industrial environments. If your system needs to connect to PLCs, sensors, meters or other legacy serial equipment, checking the interface requirement first is usually the best starting point.
