The right interface depends on the device you need to connect and the way the data will be transmitted. RS-232 is often used for straightforward point-to-point connections, while RS-422 and RS-485 are typically better suited to longer runs or more noise-prone industrial environments. If your system needs to connect to PLCs, sensors, meters or other legacy serial equipment, checking the interface requirement first is usually the best starting point.

That depends on how many devices the system needs to support now and whether future expansion is likely.
