E-Mark In-Vehicle Solutions

Impulse have the industry insight and technology know-how to provide in-vehicle solutions that are certified, connected and ready for the road.

Industry Insight. Technology Know-how.

Why E-Mark Certification Matters

In-vehicle computing and networking devices are built for demanding road, rail and fleet environments where resilience to fluctuating power conditions, wide operating temperatures, and ignition control matters most. E-Mark certification ensures industrial computers and networking hardware comply with stringent EU safety and environmental regulations for automotive deployment. With guaranteed electromagnetic compatibility and reliability in harsh environments, E-Mark solutions are proven to be energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, and equipped to deliver safe, optimal performance in diverse in-vehicle applications where continuous connectivity and system uptime are critical.

Not only is E-Mark certification important, but these systems also comply with rugged industry standards, including EN 501055 and MIL-STD-810G, providing resilience against shock, vibration and extreme conditions commonly encountered in onboard railway, transport and fleet deployments.

From Specification to Long-Term Support: How We Deliver E-mark In-Vehicle Computing & Networking Projects

In-vehicle projects require reliable computing and networking platforms that can operate consistently in mobile environments and support long-term deployment on the road. We work with customers to define the application, select the right E-marked platforms, configure and validate systems in the UK, and support controlled change across the life of the deployment.

Application Review & Requirements Capture

Every in-vehicle project starts with a clear understanding of the vehicle environment, the onboard application, and the communications requirement. We review where the system will be installed, how it will be powered, what data and network functions it must support, and which approvals or operational requirements apply. This helps ensure the solution is reliable, supportable, and suited to real-world vehicle deployment.

Platform Selection & Solution Definition

Once the application has been defined, we help select the right E-marked platforms for both onboard computing and vehicle network infrastructure. This may include in-vehicle computers, routers, switches, displays, and associated peripherals. The aim is to build a solution that fits the technical requirement, the available installation space, and the long-term support plan.

System Build, Configuration & Validation

Systems are configured and validated in the UK to an agreed project standard. This can include hardware assembly, operating system installation, firmware control, imaging, and project-specific test procedures designed around the intended in-vehicle role. The aim is to deliver platforms that are prepared for efficient installation and dependable operation in service.

Lifecycle Planning & Ongoing Change Control

Vehicle deployments are often expected to remain in service for many years, so lifecycle planning is an important part of the project. We help maintain configuration control, monitor manufacturer notices, and support transitions when products change or reach end of life. This helps maintain continuity and reduce risk across long-life in-vehicle programmes.

Frequently Asked Questions

In-Vehicle Solutions FAQs

E-Mark certification confirms that automotive and transport electronics meet safety, environmental and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards defined by the EU and UNECE. For in-vehicle computing and networking equipment, this certification ensures devices can operate safely within vehicles without causing interference to other onboard systems while maintaining reliable performance in demanding transport environments.
Our range of E-Mark certified computing and networking platforms supports multiple mounting options to simplify vehicle integration. These include VESA mounting, DIN-rail installation, wall mounting and rack mounting depending on the system form factor. For specialised deployments, we can also design bespoke mounting solutions to ensure secure installation in vehicles operating in harsh environments where shock, vibration and limited space must be considered.
EN 50155 is a railway standard designed for electronic equipment used in rolling stock. While it is different from E-Mark certification, EN 50155 systems share many rugged characteristics including tolerance to vibration, temperature extremes and fluctuating power conditions. EN 50155 certified computers and networking hardware are often used in rail applications or transport environments where E-Mark compliance is not required but high reliability and durability remain essential.
