AMD Ryzen Embedded

Ryzen Embedded

The need for industrial control and automation systems to grow in sophistication has increased markedly in recent years, while still being required to meet the space, power, and thermal demands of industrial environments. Impulse Design Engineers are constantly being challenged to find ways to satisfy the demands of more processing power for graphics and compute-intensive systems in our customers ever-evolving applications.
The AMD Ryzen Embedded processors are a low-power variant of the Ryzen line-up that has been steadily increasing its market share in the desktop and enterprise markets. Targeting primarily graphics-driven applications like medical imaging, digital signage, and in-vehicle systems, the Ryzen embedded processors offer powerful, uncompromising compute solutions with low Thermal Design Power (TDP) and support a comprehensive range of configurable I/O

Rich Multimedia

Ryzen Embedded leverages AMD Radeon graphics to provide exceptional multimedia performance, configurable across multiple displays in Ultra-High Definition (UHD). The clarity of an image is as important on the high street as it is in the operating room and you are more likely to engage with customers if the information is clear and readable. With this in mind the Ryzen Embedded platform offers:
  • Full 4K UHD support and hardware acceleration for 4K video with modern video codecs like HEVC/H.265 which will provide smooth ultra-high-resolution images.
  • High Dynamic Range (HDR) supports crystal clear images in high definition and can be the difference in attracting and retaining consumers.
  • Multi-display support offering up to four 4K display outputs and Eyefinity, allowing engineers to build up large video walls into one single seamless display system.
  • Reduced complexity and system cost thanks to the multi-display output, onboard graphics processors, flexible x86 support, and low Thermal Design Power (TDP).
  • Lower OS licensing costs and reduced overall BOM cost for multi-screen deployments.

Advanced Security Features

To help combat the significant threats to system security and data integrity that rise from pervasive IoT connectivity, Ryzen Embedded SoCs leverage an onboard AMD secure processor for Crypto co-processing that encrypts data before sending it to the I/O. Combining this with platform-secure boot technologies like TPM, and Secure Memory Encryption in which stored memory is encrypted, helps prevent unauthorized administrators and cyber attackers from accessing the data, as well as mitigating the risk from a cold boot attack.

Ryzen Embedded Products from Impulse

Ryzen Embedded Products from Impulse

Fuelled by the increase in output and development by our manufacturing partners of devices featuring Ryzen Embedded Processors, Impulse has been steadily expanding the range of rugged Ryzen Embedded Processor products available to our customers. This surge in development and innovation by global manufacturers is a key indication of the ease in which these processors can be integrated and the benefits they provide.

V2000 products are firmly in the pipeline for many of our partners and we can't wait to see what innovative ways they've decided to harness the extra performance.

DS-082
The DS-082 from Advantech has by and large been one of our best selling Ryzen Embedded systems, with a flexible choice of processor and features focussed around harnessing the 4x 4K UHD independent display support. Whilst clearly aimed at the digital signage market, with its ultra-thin compact fanless design, it has enough power to run as a thin desktop client and works seamlessly with Windows 10. Impulse stocks the DS-082 and you can configure your own system with our Embedded Box PC configurator here

Nuvo-2700DS
The Nuvo-2700DS is a rugged low profile fanless digital signage system with a slight difference. The core of the Nuvo-2700DS is built around the Ryzen Embedded V1605B and like other rugged digital signage computers, as it has four USB ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet, eight channels of isolated digital I/O, two RS-232 ports, two M.2 expansion ports for wireless and 5G communications, plus an M.2 storage slot. All this I/O is packed into a rugged fanless enclosure capable of operating in wide temperature ranges of -25°C to +70°C. The difference however is that the Nuvo-2700DS can be upgraded with 2 Google TPU ASIC modules to boost the AI performance of the Nuvo-2700DS with capabilities more akin to a rugged Edge AI embedded platform.

POC-551VTC
The POC-551VTC is another compact fanless system featuring the Ryzen Embedded V1605B 3.6GHz quad-core processor, which this time is focussed around the In-vehicle industry. The POC-551VTC boasts a plethora of features like 4x PoE with a 25.5W per port power budget, 4x Serial ports, CANbus, Isolated DIO  4x USB, and 3x Mini-PCIe for additional expansion.

AIMB-228
The AIMB-228 Mini-ITX motherboard from Advantech supports a selection of CPU options, is rich in features, and can be run fanless or with an active cooling solution. Featuring an extended 12-24V DC input range, support for up to four independent 4K Displays, The AIMB-228 is perfectly suited for monitoring applications or industrial automation applications which demand high-performance graphics.

CAPA13R
The CAPA13R from Axiomtek is a 3.5” SBC, which highlights the strength and versatility of the Ryzen Embedded chipset by delivering outstanding 3D graphics quality through two HDMI, one DisplayPort++, and one LVDS. The CPU is onboard and attached to the rear side, and can be fitted with a heat spreader for heat dissipation and offers flexibility for easy system integration and minimum maintenance. Additionally, the CAPA13R features two M.2 ports for wireless and storage modules, supports up to 16GB of SODIMM memory, and has a 12V DC input, making it perfect for a variety of embedded applications.

GHF51
DFI have been early adopters of the Ryzen Embedded processors and have integrated them into multiple form factors. The standout product is the GHF51 — a Raspberry Pi sized 1.8” SBC as small as a credit card, and whilst it may not pack all the features of its larger 3.5” and mini-ITX counterparts it still has the same incredible graphical performance, with two micro HDMI 1.4 outputs, up to 64GB eMMC and a full-size mini PCIe card for expansion. DFI currenltly offers 12W R1606G dual-core models, with a 15W quad-core V1605B in the pipeline.
