Customised fanless PCs installed in the control room of the world's oldest underground railway

The engineers who look after the Bakerloo and Metropolitan signalling and control room systems wanted to upgrade the control room display systems with new computers in order to replace aging 19" rack PCs with smaller form factor fanless computers.
A legacy pointing and scrolling system of London Underground design interfaced with the existing rack PCs in a unique way. This meant that a customised fanless COTS computer was required with relevant safety certifications and high MTBF in order to be a drop in replacement for the existing computers.

As one of AAEON Technology's longest standing partners in Europe, Impulse worked with them to customise one of their BOXER Fanless Computers to provide a power and data interface to the legacy pointing system in the control room. We utilised a high relaibility SLC Industrial SSD along with a custom Windows 7 Embedded operating system, embedded custom charactor sets and three different variants of the control room software to give a stable, reliable and protected platform for deployment into the three areas of the Bakerloo Control Room.
