Our customer required a modern, reliable long-lifetime
panel PC solution for installation in an ROV control room. The main requirement of the project was to upgrade existing ROV control room hardware, while continuing to run a legacy piece of control software.
Due to the nature of ROV control, it was essential for our customer to have an installation that is both reliable and future-proof. While maintaining the ability to run their existing legacy control software, their objective was to install the latest
panel PC technology to improve speed and responsiveness, reliability and reduce failure risk.
Alongside the performance upgrades, in order to further future-proof the system our client required a substantial quantity of RS-422 ports to allow continual
expansion.
Impulse provided an
Advantech panel PC running Windows 7, along with a
Moxa serial card to give 8x RS-422 ports in addition to the standard onboard
I/O. The system was installed with 250GB SSD to speed up boot and general responsiveness of the system, and in order to improve reliability a fanless
panel PC was selected.
