Converting Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP with the Moxa MB3000 series

This video provides an overview of how to convert Modbus RTU protocol to Modbus TCP protocol using Moxa’s MB3180 ultra compact Modbus gateway.

With its small form factor and dual mounting options the MB3180 can easily be installed into both new and existing applications. The configuration of the MB3180 can be achieved via a windows or Linux command line tool or via Moxa's own visual and intuitive software tool, the MGate Manager, which gives the user a granular level of detail to configure the device.

As a gateway, the Modbus roles can be set on the interface in order to suit specific application requirements. Thus ensuring the MB3180 is an ideal product to enable quick and easy Modbus protocol conversion for industrial applications, where reliable performance and uninterrupted operation are essential.

MGATE MB3180 Product Features

The MB3180 is a standard Modbus gateway that convert between Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU/ASCII protocols. Up to 16x simultaneous Modbus TCP masters are supported, with up to 31x RTU/ASCII slaves per serial port. For RTU/ASCII masters, up to 32x TCP slaves are supported. The MB3180 is designed for easy integration of Modbus TCP and RTU/ASCII networks. Modbus serial slave devices can be seamlessly incorporated into an existing Modbus TCP network, and Modbus TCP slaves can be made accessible to serial masters.

The MB3180 offers features that make network integration easy, customisable, and compatible with almost any Modbus network. The MGate MB3180 gateway can effectively connect a high density of Modbus nodes to the same network. The RS-232/422/485 serial port can be configured individually for Modbus RTU or Modbus ASCII operation and for different baudrates, allowing both types of networks to be integrated with Modbus TCP through one Modbus gateway.
