The MDS-G4020 is a modular managed Ethernet switch that combines high port density with rugged modular flexibility for mission-critical substation and industrial networks. Certified to IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613, it provides up to 20 Gigabit ports in a compact, adaptable form factor.
Each unit includes 4x embedded Gigabit ports and 4x expansion slots that support LM-7000H interface modules, enabling copper, fibre, PoE+, or PRP/HSR configurations. This flexibility allows operators to tailor the switch for backbone aggregation, access connectivity, or device powering. Two power module slots accept LV (24/48 VDC) or HV (110/220 VAC/VDC) supplies, with redundant options for maximum uptime.
The modular design uses hot-swappable, tool-free cards with a passive backplane, reducing downtime and simplifying servicing. Its compact die-cast housing supports DIN-rail, wall, or rack mounting, making it suitable for both control room and field deployment.
Resiliency features include PRP and HSR per IEC 62439-3, plus Turbo Ring/Chain, RSTP, and MSTP, delivering seamless redundancy. IEEE 1588 PTP, combined with IEC 61850-9-3 and IEEE C37.238 profiles, ensures sub-microsecond synchronisation for protection and control. MMS/IEC 61850-90-4 support and an HTML5 web interface provide easy SCADA integration and intuitive management.
With its operating range of -10 to 60°C, modular design, and IEC 61850-3 certification, the MDS-G4020 is an excellent choice for substation, utility, transportation, and industrial applications that require scalable, high-availability Gigabit switching.

RMA
In order to process returned goods, Impulse Embedded Limited uses an internal RMA system. Before returning goods for any reason, please contact Impulse Embedded Limited (returns@impulse-embedded.co.uk) to request an RMA number. Please confirm the reason for the return of the goods, providing the Serial Number, Product Code, and Impulse Embedded Limited Invoice Number (if known).
When returning goods, please ensure they are suitably packed so as to avoid damage, are in the original packaging, along with all accessories, with the outer packaging marked with the RMA number. It is recommended that you use a signed delivery service, as goods lost in transit are not the responsibility of Impulse Embedded Limited.
Please do not write the RMA number on the goods or on the original packaging. Impulse Embedded Limited may refuse returned goods and return them if they arrive without an RMA number, or not in the original packaging.

Spurious error messages, especially those from rolling-stock subsystems, can be difficult and time consuming to diagnose. Siemens Rail, in Manchester, wished to install a data logging system onto their rolling stock to transmit data in real-time back to their depot for efficient data analysis by their team.
