The EDS-408A-3S-SC-48 is an entry-level managed 8-port industrial switch that mixes copper access with long-reach fibre uplinks. It provides five 10/100BaseT(X) RJ-45 ports for field devices and three 100BaseFX single-mode SC ports, enabling links up to 40 km for building-to-building or trackside backbones. Designed for resilient operation, it supports Turbo Ring and Turbo Chain redundancy with recovery under 20 ms (up to 250 switches), plus STP/RSTP for standards-based designs across mixed vendors.
Deterministic performance is delivered through IEEE 802.1Q VLAN and port-based VLAN, QoS (802.1p/ToS), IGMP snooping, bandwidth management, RMON, and port mirroring for diagnostics. Integration with control systems is straightforward using EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP, and the switches can be discovered and managed with MXstudio. Configuration and monitoring are available via web GUI, CLI, Telnet/serial console, or Windows utility, and alarms can trigger via relay output and email.
The hardware platform features dual redundant power inputs, supporting ±24/±48 VDC (±19 to ±60 VDC operating) with reverse polarity and overcurrent protection. Housed in a compact IP30 metal enclosure, it supports DIN-rail or wall mounting and operates from -10 to +60 °C. Compliance covers EN 50121-4 railway EMC, NEMA TS2 traffic, ATEX/Class I Div 2 hazardous locations, and marine approvals, with shock, vibration and freefall testing to IEC standards.
With 8K MAC table, 256 IGMP groups, 1 Mbit packet buffer and 4 priority queues, the EDS-408A-3S-SC-48 offers a practical, secure and easy-to-deploy platform for utility substations, wayside cabinets, tunnel systems and campus-scale fibre backbones.

In order to process returned goods, Impulse Embedded Limited uses an internal RMA system. Before returning goods for any reason, please contact Impulse Embedded Limited (returns@impulse-embedded.co.uk) to request an RMA number. Please confirm the reason for the return of the goods, providing the Serial Number, Product Code, and Impulse Embedded Limited Invoice Number (if known).
When returning goods, please ensure they are suitably packed so as to avoid damage, are in the original packaging, along with all accessories, with the outer packaging marked with the RMA number. It is recommended that you use a signed delivery service, as goods lost in transit are not the responsibility of Impulse Embedded Limited.
Please do not write the RMA number on the goods or on the original packaging. Impulse Embedded Limited may refuse returned goods and return them if they arrive without an RMA number, or not in the original packaging.

Our customer required a modern, reliable long-lifetime panel PC solution for installation in an ROV control room. The main requirement of the project was to upgrade existing ROV control room hardware, while continuing to run a legacy piece of control software.
