The MDS-G4012-L3-4XGS is a wide-temperature (-40 to 75°C) modular Layer 3 managed switch that combines Gigabit density, 10G uplink performance, and advanced routing in a compact, rugged design. Fully certified to IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613, it is engineered for power substations, utilities, and critical industrial infrastructure requiring both high-performance switching and Layer 3 routing.
The switch delivers a total of 12 Gigabit ports, with four integrated 10G SFP+ uplinks, for high-bandwidth backbone connectivity. Expansion is provided by LM-7000H interface modules, which support copper, fibre, or PoE+ options, enabling a tailored configuration for edge access or aggregation. Two hot-swappable power slots support LV (24/48 VDC) and HV (110/220 VAC/VDC) inputs, allowing redundant power supply arrangements for maximum availability.
In addition to Layer 2 switching, the device offers comprehensive Layer 3 routing features, including static and dynamic routing, inter-VLAN routing, and multicast routing (IGMP/MLD), enabling more efficient traffic segmentation and backbone design in large-scale deployments. These capabilities allow the MDS-G4012-L3-4XGS-T to function not only as an access or aggregation switch but also as a compact routing platform for substation and industrial networks.
Resiliency protocols include PRP and HSR, as per IEC 62439-3, as well as Turbo Ring/Chain, RSTP, and MSTP. Meanwhile, hardware-based IEEE 1588 PTP, with IEC 61850-9-3 and IEEE C37.238 profiles, ensures sub-microsecond time synchronisation. MMS/IEC 61850-90-4 support and an HTML5 web interface simplify SCADA integration and system management.
With its extended temperature tolerance, advanced Layer 3 routing features, modular expansion, and 10G uplink performance, the MDS-G4012-L3-4XGS-T provides a powerful, standards-based solution for building resilient, high-performance substation and industrial Ethernet networks.

In order to process returned goods, Impulse Embedded Limited uses an internal RMA system. Before returning goods for any reason, please contact Impulse Embedded Limited (returns@impulse-embedded.co.uk) to request an RMA number. Please confirm the reason for the return of the goods, providing the Serial Number, Product Code, and Impulse Embedded Limited Invoice Number (if known).
When returning goods, please ensure they are suitably packed so as to avoid damage, are in the original packaging, along with all accessories, with the outer packaging marked with the RMA number. It is recommended that you use a signed delivery service, as goods lost in transit are not the responsibility of Impulse Embedded Limited.
Please do not write the RMA number on the goods or on the original packaging. Impulse Embedded Limited may refuse returned goods and return them if they arrive without an RMA number, or not in the original packaging.

Our customer was looking for ways to improve efficiency and reliability, and reduce operation costs and overheads for their manufacturing facility. The initial step in this transformation was to add additional monitoring and measurements to several areas of their facility to allow the collection of usage data from older machinery for analysis. The machinery to be analysed would be located in many areas of the complex, with some sitting in concrete outbuildings far from the source of the main network.
