The EDS-505A-SS-SC is a managed Ethernet switch with three 10/100 RJ-45 ports and two single-mode SC fibre uplinks, extending Ethernet connections up to 40 km. It is designed for long-haul industrial networks, including inter-building links, railway signalling, and substation automation.
For reliability, it supports Turbo Ring and Turbo Chain (<20 ms recovery) alongside STP/RSTP/MSTP protocols. Advanced traffic control includes VLAN segmentation, QoS prioritisation, IGMP snooping, GMRP multicast filtering, port trunking, and bandwidth management, ensuring deterministic traffic handling for critical SCADA applications.
Management is accessible via web GUI, CLI, Telnet, serial console, or MXstudio software, with relay outputs and email notifications for event reporting. Security is strengthened with 802.1X authentication, HTTPS, SSH, TACACS+, and RADIUS.
Encased in a rugged IP30-rated housing, the switch supports DIN-rail and wall mounting. It is rated for -10 to 60 °C operation and carries certifications including EN 50121-4 railway EMC, NEMA TS2 traffic, ATEX hazardous zones, and maritime (DNV, LR, ABS).
With MTBF exceeding 1 million hours and backed by a 5-year warranty, the EDS-505A-SS-SC ensures reliable and secure fibre connectivity for long-distance industrial Ethernet deployments.

RMA
In order to process returned goods, Impulse Embedded Limited uses an internal RMA system. Before returning goods for any reason, please contact Impulse Embedded Limited (returns@impulse-embedded.co.uk) to request an RMA number. Please confirm the reason for the return of the goods, providing the Serial Number, Product Code, and Impulse Embedded Limited Invoice Number (if known).
When returning goods, please ensure they are suitably packed so as to avoid damage, are in the original packaging, along with all accessories, with the outer packaging marked with the RMA number. It is recommended that you use a signed delivery service, as goods lost in transit are not the responsibility of Impulse Embedded Limited.
Please do not write the RMA number on the goods or on the original packaging. Impulse Embedded Limited may refuse returned goods and return them if they arrive without an RMA number, or not in the original packaging.

Our customer was looking for ways to improve efficiency and reliability, and reduce operation costs and overheads for their manufacturing facility. The initial step in this transformation was to add additional monitoring and measurements to several areas of their facility to allow the collection of usage data from older machinery for analysis. The machinery to be analysed would be located in many areas of the complex, with some sitting in concrete outbuildings far from the source of the main network.
