The NPort IA5150-M-SC-G2-T is a 1-port wide-temperature serial device server designed for reliable serial-to-fibre communication in harsh environments. It connects a single RS-232/422/485 device to an Ethernet network via a fibre uplink, providing immunity to EMI and extreme temperatures.
This model's "-T" rating certifies it for operation in a wide -40 to 75°C temperature range. Its network interface includes one 10/100Base-T(X) RJ45 port and one 100Base-FX multi-mode fibre port (SC connector). The fibre optic connection is ideal for long-distance runs (up to 4-5 km) and areas with significant electrical noise, as it is immune to EMI/RFI and ground loops.
Setup is streamlined, with a 30-second Real COM mode configuration. The server supports a full suite of secure, encrypted operation modes (Real COM, TCP Server/Client, Reverse SSH) and high-precision nonstandard baud rates up to 921.6 kbps.
Built for maximum uptime, the IA5150-M-SC-G2-T has a rugged IP30 metal housing, 12-48 VDC power inputs, and robust surge protection. One-click log collection and embedded traffic monitoring simplify diagnostics, while a relay output and email alerts provide proactive warnings for power or link failures.
This is the ideal choice for a critical serial asset in a remote location exposed to both electrical noise and extreme weather.

Rolling-stock data logger for Siemens Rail
Spurious error messages, especially those from rolling-stock subsystems, can be difficult and time consuming to diagnose. Siemens Rail, in Manchester, wished to install a data logging system onto their rolling stock to transmit data in real-time back to their depot for efficient data analysis by their team.
