The NPort IA5450I-G2 is a 4-port isolated serial device server, providing critical protection for high-density industrial automation systems. It securely connects up to four RS-232/422/485 serial devices to an Ethernet network while safeguarding them from ground loop currents, noise, and voltage spikes.
This model features 2 kV of serial isolation on all four ports, making it essential for environments with high electrical interference or differing ground potentials. It includes dual 10/100Base-T(X) RJ45 Ethernet ports that act as a switch, allowing for easy daisy-chaining to simplify wiring and reduce infrastructure costs. The ports also support dual IP addressing for network redundancy.
Setup is fast, with 30-second Real COM mode configuration via the DSU-G2 utility. The server is packed with secure operation modes, including Secure Real COM, Secure TCP Server/Client, and Reverse SSH, all using data encryption to protect sensitive communications. It also supports high-precision nonstandard baud rates up to 921.6 kbps.
Built for the factory floor, the IA5450I-G2 has a durable IP30 metal housing, 12-48 VDC power inputs, and surge protection on all lines. One-click diagnostics and embedded traffic monitoring simplify troubleshooting, while a relay output and email alerts warn of faults.
This "I" model features four isolated RS-232/422/485 DB9 ports and operates within a standard temperature range of -10 to 60 °C.

Rolling-stock data logger for Siemens Rail
Spurious error messages, especially those from rolling-stock subsystems, can be difficult and time consuming to diagnose. Siemens Rail, in Manchester, wished to install a data logging system onto their rolling stock to transmit data in real-time back to their depot for efficient data analysis by their team.
