The MOXA NPort 6610-16-G2 is a 16-port RS-232 secure terminal server aimed at applications that need more serial density than an 8-port model but do not require the larger footprint of a 32-port platform. It is particularly well suited to industrial control rooms, transport depots, utilities, machine clusters, and multi-device cabinets where a moderate number of RS-232 devices must be network-enabled and centrally managed. As part of the NPort 6600-G2 family, it shares the same emphasis on secure data transmission and hardened access control, enabling legacy serial infrastructure to be integrated into Ethernet-based systems without exposing it to the weaknesses often associated with older device servers. The device supports encrypted communications via TLS and SSH, trusted firmware through Secure Boot, and modern authentication options including RADIUS and TACACS+, helping it align with stricter industrial cyber-security requirements. That makes it especially suitable for organisations upgrading operational technology networks without replacing all their serial field devices at once. 

The biggest distinction between the NPort 6610-16-G2 and other family members is its balance of port density and RS-232 simplicity. It offers 16 RS-232 ports over 2 x Gigabit Ethernet connections, which makes it ideal for serial-heavy environments using devices such as card readers, serial HMIs, controllers, diagnostic interfaces, and console equipment. Compared with the NPort 6610-8-G2, it supports twice the device count, making it a better fit for centralised cabinets or network closets. Compared with the NPort 6650 variants, it is designed for users who only need RS-232, rather than mixed serial standards. The model is rated for -10 to 60°C and includes 1 power cable, positioning it well for standard indoor industrial environments, building automation back rooms, test labs, and factory control enclosures. It also includes Moxa’s application analysis and one-click log collection features, which are valuable for system integrators who need to shorten commissioning time and diagnose communication issues quickly.
